Beste supporters,

Gisteren Werd ik 37e op 147 renners in eerste Nations Cup die Gent-Wevelgem/Kattekoers heette.
Er werd 189km afgelegd met daarin 3 hellingen (Kemmelberg,Monteberg en Baneberg) en een passage in de Moeren.

Ik kon mij in het begin van de wedstrijd goed vooraan houden en kon meeschuiven op de belangrijkste momenten.
De vlucht van de dag werdt gekleurd door 17renners. Niemand van onze selectie belgen was mee in de ontsnapping.
Toen de nervositeit steeg in het peleton, reed ik voor een 2e keer op dezelfde plaats lek in Veurne.
Ik kon heel gedepanneerd worden door de Nationale Ploegwagen en kon direct weer vertrekken.

Tegen een forse snelheid en adrenaline kon ik mij net voor de Moeren vooraan plaatsen in het peleton en zat ik goed vooraan wanneer het moment aangebroken was. In de Moeren was het heel gevaarlijk door de nervositeit maar al snel werd er een waaier getrokken en waren we met een groep van 30 renners voorop. Het peleton werd gecontroleerd door de Duitse troepen en zo kwamen enkele groepjes snel terug. Het peleton was gehergroepeerd tot 70 renners ongeveer.

Bij het ingaan van de Scherpenberg reed ik rond 15e positie en kon goed meeschuiven met de rest. Maar boven op de baneberg kwam ik jammergenoeg ten van door kiezelsteentjes. Ik kon mij snel weer herstellen en terugrijden naar het peleton. Bij de passage van de Kemmelberg reed ik rond 20e positie tot boven en kon goed meeschuiven. De 2e passage van de Kemmel kon ik mijn aanklampen bij de voorste gelederen en was ik mee met de overgebleven groep van 25man die naar Ieper reed. De laatste paar km probeerde ik goed mee te draaien om de koplopers in te halen maar tevergeefs. Mijn spurt was nog goed toen ik als 37e over de finish bolde in Ieper maar ik was en ben heel tevreden over mijn eerste Nations Cup. Hopelijk smaakt dit naar meer!
